His truck landed on its side about 25 feet down a steep ravine and wedged in between trees and power lines.

"We knew it was going to take some extra effort. It wasn't going to be just a normal accident," Mark Parker said, Captain at West Buncombe Fire Department.

Fortunately, trained paramedic Tim Green was passing by as he saw the accident. He was hours away from starting his shift at Medic, a private ambulance company. But, he sprang into action.

"When you see that everything slows down enough and you're able to process it even though it's happening real time," says Tim.

Because Tim assessed the scene so fast, fire crews were able to quickly and safely pull the driver free.

"He's very fortunate. I think it was the Good Lord above that enabled him not to veer into my lane and hit incoming traffic. But also to go in between hard objects that would cause blunt force trauma," Tim said.

Troopers expect the driver will be alright, aside from minor cuts and bruises.

West Buncombe firefighters call it a miracle that Tim was in the right place at the right time. Tim, on the other hand, says he's just one example of a community dedicated to his profession.

"A lot of these guys that are off duty, they help out all the time and don't get any recognition. So it's just part of the community. They're all people that help," says Tim.

Along with thanking all the first responders Tim works with, he also says another unnamed bystander deserves praise. He says that person was calling 911 before Tim even got out of the car.
