Take a Ride in Our EMS Past with the National EMS Museum Project

At EMS Today 2012, host Jamie Davis, the Podmedic checked out an antique ambulance along with some of the early equipment used by the pioneer paramedics around the country. In many cases, before there were paramedics, ambulance service was run by concerned volunteers with little or no first aid training. The used converted hearses to transport patients and with very little room to do any type of care beyond simple transportation to a hospital emergency department.

The National EMS Museum is now just a virtual museum project but through fund raising efforts and by traveling to conferences, the organizers hope to have a physical location someday. Find out more about the roots of EMS and how you can support this project at EMSMuseum.org.
