Wednesday’s pre-conference session at EMS Today, “Ultrasound in the Field,” offered a hands-on approach to teach providers the ins and outs of ultrasound. Presented by SonoSite, the session, taught by William Heegaard, MD, MPH, and a clinical team, emphasized the importance of how "little movements have big effects" when it comes to ultrasound.
With the help of four male models, participants received training on how to properly hold and move the probe for an effective reading while scanning the heart, abdomen and pelvic areas while simultaneously watching their movements appear on the screen. Instructors also offered helpful hints on the best methods for detecting fluids and fielded many questions from participants. This session offered participants the unique opportunity to experience and understand the benefits of using this vital technology in the field.
