The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System is stretched beyond capacity. Therefore, there is a clear need to integrate a Physician Assistant (PA) into the EMS System. The problem of Hospital emergency room overcrowding is directly impacted on the concept of transporting every single patient to a Hospital emergency room, which is simply not practical and antiquated. The necessity is clearly present that the original design of the current EMS system and its function is not going to work forever, as the problems and needs of a community change.
Having a PA working with paramedics, --- on an ambulance--- providing primary care in the field, will be highly effective in making significant contributions to community health care, in a clinical aspect. Merging the two, a Paramedic and a PA willhaving the most impact having the most impacthave an enormous impact in providing an alternative to hospital emergency room transports.
Patients can be provided identical definitive care in the field, while avoiding the need to transport every single patient to a hospital. Having this asset significantly increase our resources and effectively provides a broad spectrum of services and skills invaluable to patients.
