But I’m not sure

That you really want to know.

For if you do,

It makes me wonder

As to why.

Is it some hungry

Morbid curiosity that

Lives within you

In need of being sated?

Or, do you

Really care about

The victims of illnesses

And injuries that you

Only hear about

But are beyond your

Ability to comprehend?

But I’m not sure

That you really want to know.

For if you do,

It makes me wonder

As to what.

Is it the blood and gore

That piques some troubling

Need within you

To awash yourself

In the sordid details

Of another’s horror?

Or, do you

Really care about

What the human

Spirit and soul can transcend

When confronted by

The unimaginable

Alone, with only a stranger

At their side?

But I’m sure

That you really want to know.

For if you do,

It makes me wonder

As to how.

Is it how ignorance

And denial,

Laziness and stupidity

Places people in situations

Of their own design;

Either quickly

Or through years

Of being obtuse?

Or, do you

Really care about

How a person

Will fight

For their life

When all odds are

Against them

In a time and place

Where their entire trust

Must be placed

Into the hands of others?
