Birds of prey, or raptors, are meat eaters., Websters dictionary college edition. An Oklahoma Paramedic is stopped and arrested while transporting a patient by three Oklahoma State Troopers because he failed to grant the right of way to the speeding crusier. Like Raptors the three triangulated and attacked the paramedic using brute force and screaming tactics to confuse thier prey while the patient lay in the ambulance helpless.

The crusier… Continue

Embarrassment for law officers Nationwide!

This is a letter I sent to officials in Oklahoma, I'm disgusted by the unprofessional conduct of this power hungry "officer" of the OHP!

Dear Chief:

I have been compelled to write to you as a fellow public service official, a California Firefighter/EMT-D and Emergency Room Patient Care Technician for two (2) hospitals. The incident that took place between your officer Martin and EMT-P White in Paden, OK on the 24th of May 2009 in NOT ONLY completely unprofessional and a… Continue

Choosing the right EMT Program... Student Beware!

EMT's a big decision. Some students tell me that they had the calling to be an EMT from a very young age. Others tell me it came much later in life. One thing that is true for both types; once its in your blood, there is no escaping it. You are consumed with finding a program, you search the Internet for any information you can get your hands on. You talk with friends and family, and visit your local fire department. You are on a mission to find the program that will best suit… Continue

Global Health Problems Knocked…Volunteer Medical Missions Answer!

The world is in chaos. The wars between countries with rivalry, the famine, the economical instability of countries due to the global financial crisis, and the worst of all, poverty, these are the maladies that kills millions of lives of our poor fellowmen around the world. Many people are getting bothered about the things that are happening around them. They are thinking if these are already signs of the world’s destruction. But… Continue

What would you Tell 911 Operators/Dispatchers if Given the Chance?

I will be providing another 911 Operators/Dispatchers training next week. I think we all could learn and profit from each other more when we are given these opportunities.

As budgets have become stretched and the economy has become “less than splendid” the opportunity to shadow each other has seemed to have vanished in our community.

So, I’d like to ask for your help. Your knowledge, skill and ability will be valuable, especially since this blog covers such a wide… Continue

The Emergency Mind

“I have an Al-Anon question for you,” C leaned forward in her chair. Al-Anon is the sister organization of Alcoholics Anonymous. It’s the place people go when they love—or sometimes hate but can’t leave—an alcoholic. She phrased the question with a mixture of conspiracy and disdain. She was a member of A.A.

She described a friend of hers who has been living with a woman who suffers from bipolar disorder and goes into psychotic manias. They are cyclic, monstrous, whirling events that sweep… Continue

The Mother of Invention - Science vs Tradition

By now, all delegates from the EMS Safety Foundation (click here) have made their way back to their home states and countries after attending RETTmobile 2009, one of Europe’s largest public safety expositions and trade fairs. I had never been overseas before and I found the whole experience very refreshing, informative and lots of fun. It really was like I was on “The Amazing Race,” finding my way around Germany without speaking… Continue

Well-deserved Inadequacy

There’s a new fad, according to the Wall Street Journal: bad mothers. And these bad mothers are bad and proud of it. Apparently several new books have risen from the literary ashes of the publishing world as it tries to compete with anonymous tell-all internet sites. One is unabashedly titled “Bad Mother” and chronicles a mythic litany of maternal horrors.

This, from the article in the Journal and one of the books it is reviewing:

A mother in British Columbia wrote… Continue

Random Ramblings

Word of the week: Twatted - UK - To hit on the head

EMS device of the week: Oral Screw (Jaw Spreader)

Randomness; The distance to the nearest hospital seems like a long way, if we're doing CPR. Sometimes, to break the stress or liven things up while we're working someone, I'll blurt out random things to wake myself up. I'll say to the other person that "spells me" (takes over for a bit), look in the cabinet and see if you can find… Continue

"It's May 15th -- Zero Day. Riders and support people from around the U.S., Canada and Ireland have converged on New York City and Paintsville, Ky. in anticipation of the 2009 National EMS Memorial Bike Ride.

The National EMS Memorial Bike Ride honors Emergency Medical Services personnel by organizing and… Continue

A Blog is like a Tattoo - Think before you ink!

Sometimes when I'm driving, I suddenly get a flash of creativity. Several weeks ago when the light turned green I suddenly got this flash:

A Blog is like a tattoo.

Yes, both a blog and a tattoo are forever. Facebook and their terms of service has recently been the source of a great deal of discussion. We simply know before you post on Facebook or a blog it's important to be really certain you can live with that content forever.

While I don't have the desire for… Continue

The Ultimate Driving Experience

The second day of the RETTmobile 2009 conference started off wonderfully with a beautiful warm sunny day in Germany. The crowd was large and representatives from counties across Europe packed the trade show. As we entered the safety expo a large contingent from Dubai were being escorted from their oversized mobile medical vehicle as search and rescue team dogs and their handlers strolled by. Much to my surprise you’ll find that dogs are allowed in most German restaurants and bars. I and… Continue

Okay...I'm rather shocked....

Unfortunately I have a friend who has been diagnosed with a terminal disease. Spent their whole life as a Paramedic and went on to RN. In the throws of trying to make ends for for medication (while being the sole provider for a family that includes a disabled child).....I came to find that we as EMS providers have no non for profit organization......let me repeat that....WE AS EMS PROVIDERS HAVE NO NON FOR PROFIT help us when we are say, injured… Continue

Live From RETTmobile 2009

There’s one thing I realized as I rode the bus from Fulda to the retired air force base in the German country side and that was “I’m not in Kansas anymore Toto.” They came from all over the world through the lush green, purple and yellow crop fields to the site of RETTmobile 2009, one of Europe’s largest EMS, fire and rescue exhibitions and public safety trade fairs. The setting had a very international flavor.

Among the tens of thousands who attended were 22 delegates hosted… Continue

Rebooting the Mind

The other day I was leading a group for multiple DWI offenders. One of them, a middle-aged man who was particularly angered by the bracelet he was being forced to wear on his ankle, the legal routines that now filled his life, and the fact that he was mandated to attend at least two A.A. meetings a week interrupted the group process with a rant on how he was being brainwashed.

I turned to face him directly,… Continue

Just trying to find new people to connect with

New to this site and just trying to make new friends either in NM or anywhere in the world that has the same love of EMS as I do. It's nice to see that there is a place that is dedicated to the EMS world and that tries to cater to the growing family of collegues.
