15 Things Not to Do on Facebook

One of the sessions I enjoyed most at EMS Today this year was "The Facebook" session. In "Fired for Facebook?: 15 Common Sense Principles to Help Keep Your Face on Your EMS Agency's Profile," JEMS Editorial Board members Steve Wirth, Esq. and Douglas Wolfberg, Esq., offered the room full of attendees tips of things EMS providers should NOT do on Facebook.

JEMSY Award Winners

The votes are in for the 2011 JEMSY Award Winners, which were announced at EMS Today!


The Judges Award for Best New Product went to Hurl-e "pocket-size" Emesis Container by Ramedic, while Judges Choice was awarded to FASTPLINT Vacuum Mattress by Hartwell Medical and the Popular Choice Award went to I.T.D. "Improved Traction Devise" by Emergency Products +.


The awards were presented in the exhibit hall at noon on Saturday, March 4.

Recipe for EMS Mastery

Yesterday, I learned that becoming a clinical “master” of EMS is a lot like making a batch of brownies: You can’t just throw in random ingredients and expect a tasty outcome. Instead, you have to pay careful attention to all the ingredients you add into the mix. Yesterday, David Page, MS, NREMT-P, shared some tips on what he’s learned are the important elements to becoming one at his packed afternoon session.

Ultrasound in the Field

Wednesday’s pre-conference session at EMS Today, “Ultrasound in the Field,” offered a hands-on approach to teach providers the ins and outs of ultrasound. Presented by SonoSite, the session, taught by William Heegaard, MD, MPH, and a clinical team, emphasized the importance of how "little movements have big effects" when it comes to ultrasound.
