"Alan, the show sent out memos to California EMS agencies calling for actual medics and EMTs to film as background personnel, one of our guys did it and was very disappointed, he literally came back pissed that actual practicing paramedics would…"
"Definitely a great video that I would show to my kids if they were old enough to see it. But I think that it could have gone further by showing the notification of death to the parents, having a hospital scene, and possibly a court scene of her…"
"I personally don't have a preference, I work just as well with men as I do with women. Although I do find that a lot of the male EMTs complain a whole lot more than the females. My current partner, a female claims that she became an EMT because…"
"A mess all the way around, but as I've said before this situation was very poorly handled by both sides. 5 days suspension may be a little on the light side but it is what it is, but I think the medic and EMT need to have their actions closely…"
"i generally work 24 hour shifts although we have 12 hour shifts as well. personally i like it a lot more because i actually get to spend time with my kids on my days off compared to going to work just as the kids are beginning to wake up and coming…"
This is a group for the female side of emergency medicine. Its a place where we can let our hair down and discuss the challenges and triumphs of what it is like working in a traditionally male dominated field.See More
"thanks for the reply, what an awesome story about your daughter! She sounds like an exceptional person, at that age a lot of kids might have panicked despite being around it so much in practice. It sounds like you have juggled your career and family…"
"i always find that it gets through to the family faster when you are compassionately blunt with them and use simple/plain language, i will usually have them sit down and i will kneel down to be at their eye level and say " _________ is dead, *a…"
"I have 5 kids ages 9 to 6, i've been in ems for close to 12 years, with my first pregnancy i worked on the ambulance until i was 7 months along and then i worked dispatch until the day i came home and my water broke 3 weeks early, lol. it was…"
"a few years back we were dispatched out to an unknown medical in the late evening after a very long and intense day, upon arrival we discovered a 14 year old male with his penis and testes impaled on a chain link fence. the kid kept telling us that…"
I am married to a wonderful man, we have 5 kids ages 9, 8(2), and 6(2). I started out in EMS straight out of high school, worked as a basic for about a year, than went on to paramedic school and have been a medic ever since, a little over 10 years now ... i think, lol. I am also an EMT-Basic instructor at a local college and have done the tactical medic training with the Sheriff's dept but never actually worked as one on account of my cop husband's protests about our children losing both parents in one day, or something crazy like that. Wanna know anything else, ask, can't promise that i'll answer but ask anyway.

thanks for the reply, what an awesome story about your daughter! She sounds like an exceptional person, at that age a lot of kids might have panicked despite being around it so much in practice. It sounds like you have juggled your career and family amazingly well, I only hope I can do the same! I'm setting up a new group on the jems group site, medic moms, please join if you're interested and pass it on to others, we could probably all benefit from some support!
