Spine board or Vacmat?

Sending the hospital the bill for EMS equipment they negligently destroy in the removal process tends to eliminate the physician or nurse-induced equipment destruction very quickly.
If all the texts, specialty courses (PHTLS etc.) and instructors teach long board, then you have a "standard of care" that nobody's going to go up against unless they are brave, have courageous medical direction etc.
And of course a good buget.

I haven't used a vacmat, but I love vacuum splints. Unfortunately, the vac splints are incredibly expensive if they need to be replaced - and I've actually stood there with my mouth gaping open as a Trauma resident cut through my vac splint. Spine...

Which one do you prefer, spine board or vacuum mattress? Why?

Short answer, for MVA's and other situations where extrication is required I use a regular spine board. For back-country calls with a long transport time I use the mattress. Side note, the mattress is worth its weight in gold for those situations ...

Hi everyone, I have been working a Fly Car now for 2 years. I also like the concept. In fact, the hospital that I am working in (Bangkok, Thailand) is the only hospital base ambulance that operate this type of vehicle with multi-tasks.
If you work in a "fly car" or "first responder" this is the place for you. Say hello, get to know each other, share experiences good or bad. A good place to vent or just learn what we all do in our regions.
Very interestingly, how do you apply them (ice packs) on the patient ?
