Jeff - - - this is just semantics, but you wrote & underlined Health Care yet gave the definition for Medical Care. But a lot of people seem to use the two phrases interchangably. Health Care = providing for the health of a population, such as y...

I believe that EMS falls into both categories. -Health Care: We provide medical treatment to patient's in need of EMS care. -Public Safety: Every ambulance service that I have seen, promotes public safety, especially during EMS week in May. Comm...

After many hours of discussing this topic, I'm firmly convinced that it really doesn't matter. We are either (a) health care workers who operate in a public safety environment, or (b) public safety workers who deliver health care. It's a distincti...

Mostly because I remember reading an article about a scientist at Dartmouth college who died after simply a few drops of a mercury compound got her glove. You can read about it here: http://offices.colgate.edu/chemmgt/dartmouthresearcher.htm

The cynic in me wants to say that E.M.S. is whatever the person who is arguing their position wants it to be at the moment. In other words if you want to argue that it is public safety, it is public safety. If you want to say it is health care, it...

Joe, I doubt that you can even define "the leadership of the fire service", so I question your qualifications to comment on what "they" may or may not believe or espouse. I flatly call B.S. on your comparison of two different fixed health care fac...

Oh, crap, I forgot about Hazmat. Remember, any job can be a Hazmat job. It just takes a little creativity. Is that bleach on the floor? Hazmat. Do you smell one of those funky smelling the markers the teachers wouldn't let you near for two long? H...

I'll accept EMS based fire suppression as being "all hazards" when the majority of them start trying to merge with police departments. Last time I checked, the leadership of the fire service rejected it for many of the same objections that could b...

Rob, I couldn't disagree more with you on several counts... 1) EMS history is more closely rooted to the military than in traditional health care, going back to at least to the horse-drawn ambulances in Napolean Bonaparte's army and, viewed from...

Skip is right on all three counts... EMS has a unique mission, we're a blend of public safety and health care, and the horse is dead and buried.

Lmao... Excellent idea! Or go to training.fema.gov and take some free online classes, a few of which actually pertain to emergency response. :)

LOL! love it, good laugh for the day! Now if we could convince them EMS is tied into hazmat somehow... they always get the big dough.

After reading this article I began to wonder what entity EMS really is? Wondering about some other's opinions on this...
