From what I saw in the new "PA EMS LAW" that was just passed (if I am correct), that yes they would be pushing EMT's to further advance themselves beyond basic. I do not have a problem with this either, but they have got to work with the volunteer...

I think the video speaks volumes, but as some have said, teens seem immune to shock value. They need those that have been involved in something like this whether survivors or parents of those that have died to give testimonies in person. We had 5 ...

I am not part of an ambulance service and operate at remote area events .i.e. down hill racing, rodeos motocross etc..I know, hear in Australia ambos look at me as a hack even though I've jumped through hoops at my own expense to do what I love an...

The answer to your question is NO. According to the protocols mentioned there was an incident and there was a patient, and he has no to little training in EMS so he had no right to recall the medics.

The problem I see with bariatric stretchers is they need to re-design the head end of the cot. At my service, we transport a good amount of obese patients. When we raise the head of the stretcher, there is a flex point at the bottom of the hydraul...

There is a great video of a new bariatric system from somewhere outside the US on youtube. Essentially, the stretcher is powered to the UP position, then is rolled in to a mount that extends backward from the ambulance floor. Then the wheels of t...

Since we're dealing with emergency medicine, I have to label my input as "ancient history" since it occurred back circa 1992. I was dispatched to retrieve a morbidly obese woman from her home and transport her to the hospital. (As Paul Harvey woul...

I would rather have ALS be dispatched, arrive on the scene and be cancelled than just cancel them outright. Better to be safe than sorry! Also, QRS units have NO responsibility cancelling an ALS unit, as they will never be the transporting unit. ...

I agree and dito on the other stuff also. Connie Hensley said:I don't think a chief should recall the ALS, even if he is an EMT. I think that should be up to the BLS providers that are going to be responsible for pt. care, even if it is a pt. ref...

I don't think a chief should recall the ALS, even if he is an EMT. I think that should be up to the BLS providers that are going to be responsible for pt. care, even if it is a pt. refusal. Unfortunately, I've had this happen to me. As a BLS provi...

I guess I need to clarify my question better. On scene there is a walking wounded self extricated from a vehicle. Vehicle has rolled once with airbag deployment and some intrusion into passenger compartment. Obvious AOB. Prior to BLS arriving on s...

According to the state-wide protocols these are the situations when EMS can stop responding when someone other than EMS personnel cancels the response. "When law enforcement or fire department personnel on scene indicate that no incident or patie...

Mark A. Duell added a discussion to the group Pennsylvania EMS Providers
Okay, is a Chief aloud to recall Medics before there is a certified EMT on scene? The Chief is not a EMT.

Addresses

What is the most efficient way of getting people to post their address #'s (PO Box #)? We are in a rural area and cover alot of back roads. It just seems no one thinks its impotant enough to have it posted out by the road till they need our help! Thought I would break the ice with a simple question since I'm new here:)

Mark,
How's it going? Not currently in the Navy. Out for the past year or two, but will probably be going back into the Reserves in the next year or so. Working in Philly area as a Flight Paramedic now. Thanks for the interest.

Hey Mark,
Spring is coming. Lots of sunshine and daylight right now, but the ground is still very snow covered. Exposed pavement is shedding its ice but it is still getting cold in the evenings/early morning (cold being teens and low 20's F. right now)

Thanks. I am fine. Life has gotten much busier for me since then. I always enjoyed going out to Somerset. Everyone was so great. Hope that I helped you with my information.

Since it's obvious to all of us that patient-centered, data driven, evidence based, and clinically excellent EMS is worth striving for, regardless of who provides it, maybe we could work together and come up with a thread entitled "characteristics...

If you could demonstrate a cause-effect relationship, I might buy it, but you can't. There mere fact that a body politic votes one way or the other is not proof of anything (except perhaps a successful lobbying effort). It's long been a scientific...
