"It may vary by region--the only thing I remember is several lifts of weights that were meant to represent lifting a patient from floor to stretcher, stretcher to height, etc. This was ca. 2003 in Akron, OH."

"Thanks again for your info. I do not have to recertify until 2014, however I wanted to get a good start so I won’t have to cram towards the end. Also, I am not currently working for an EMS company, so I don’t have anyone I can just go to…"

"This brings up another question. Since some of the classes through Acadian require you to log in at a set time and actually receive instruction from a live instructor, even through it is online, does that still count as “live” training…"

"According to the NREMT (from their website), The core 48 hours  may either be done as a formal 48 hour refresher, or through CEU classes. Of these 48, a maximum of 10 hours can be distributive (not live, interactive). The additional 24 hours of…"

National Registry CEU questions...

I had two quick questions concerning National Registry Continuing Education training. As of right now, I am not affiliated with an EMS agency. Also, because of my current work schedule it makes it difficult to attend things like lectures, conferences, or simply sitting in on an EMT class in order to get CEU’s towards recertification. I knew that Acadian Ambulance, through the National EMS Academy, offered online courses in order to get CEU’s. I went to their website and actually took a free…See More

AMR physical agility test...

I am interested in applying for AMR (American Medical Response), specifically the Gulfport MS location. I understand there is some type of physical agility test to get on with AMR and I have heard several different versions of the test. I e-mail the lady in charge of human resources, but she would not really say what all is involved with the physical test. I was wondering if any of you know what type of physical test you have to do to get on with AMR. Thanks for any information.See More

The future of EMS...

So I have been a nationally registered EMT for several months now. I am not working yet for an ambulance service, but I plan to be VERY soon. The job I am currently in has nothing to do with medicine, so I have been out of the loop for a few months. I came back on JEMS and it seems like in that short time so much has happened in EMS. I was to become a paramedic and plan on being in EMS until I just cannot physically do it anymore. It seems that there are so many advances in medicine that I…See More
