Chris - Super article & enjoyed it immensely. My formative years were in the late 70's - as yours apparently were - so I too have been down the "one-medic-or-two" road many times. And as a set medic, we are often paired with an RN or MD counterpa...

There are right at a dozen non-profits working on this, and we all pretty much break even. Nobody I know is making any money. The shilling idea is science fiction. We all have access to the same information. Painful, irritating? You bet. And very...

Skip - I wish I knew. I know very little about how the military handles these matters. Regarding your first comment, there's an uncomfortable amount of information to be found, and the modern miracle of search engines makes it a relatively simple...

Extremely well said, Cannulator.

Today is a good time, maybe, to reflect on our own mortality, and offer a prayer or two for the families, and maybe thoughts on how we might better prepare ourselves, should we ever face the same eventuality. We already know that this kind of outr...

About Me
Over the past 30 years I've gone from urban paramedic programs to specializing in wilderness & movie set emergency management. I have been honored to work on numerous movies including Planet of the Apes & Pearl Harbor. I am also very much into Resort, Campground & Wilderness settings, and have set up numerous emergency plans nationwide.

I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because
Regretfully, I left the fire / EMS model because of the constant egotistical bickering among those who truly do know better. Much of urban EMS is a caricature of what it could be.

"America's Dumbest Doctors" an edgy-humorous view of a deadly serious matter

I invite EMS professionals to take a look at "America's Dumbest Doctors" - a non-fiction study of the phenomenal volume of physician misbehavior in America.

The subject can be quickly assessed by visiting MedicalManiacs.com.

Just wondering about that Travolta incident. Doesn't the Bahamas have any rules like HIPAA in the US about releasing patient information. I saw news reports of one of the EMTs telling every last detail about the call. People in the US and most companies would get fired and have their EMT/Medic etc license revokes for violating patient confidentiality. Even if there wasn't a law, commen decency should have kept him from opening his mouth and giving EMS workers a bad name by talking. You can't believe how many questions from people I have had about that here in California.
