Isn't it great when someone gives 'advice' only to turn around and ignore their own advice? Of course it's a sure sign that someone doesn't have a leg to stand on when they have to resort to personal attacks.

Finally, remember that the people you are dealing with here are all health care professionals. Treat and speak to them as such. You candisagree with someone respectfully. If you wanna dis people on your WOW site or at the Star Wars convention, feel free. Don't say things to the people in here that would get you butt kicked in real life.

Here's another "Hey, let's ignore the points made because I can't respond to them. Instead, let's incorrectly call the arguments a straw man and write a song worthy of the first week audition episodes of America's Got Talent or American Idol. All hail the mighty fire suppression technician's song writing ability!

Joe,

"That's like saying that plumbers, electricians, and engineers should be paramilitary because they're represented in the military too." No, it isn't. I just pointed out an exception to your statement. I made no claims that EMS should be paramilitary in that statement, either.

Here are a few song lyrics for you, to the tune of "Mr. Sandman".

Mr. Strawman, bring me a claim
Make it so far-fetched it won't have a name
Call it a red herring or even a plumber
Then tell me that autocracy is over.
Strawman, I'm so confused
Why do you think Fire/EMS is overused?
Please turn on your magic invention
Mr. Strawman, you didn't end the paramilitary convention

...with all due credit to Mr. Sandman lyricist Pat Ballard and artist,s the Chordettes(1954).

I'm such a jackass...i was thinking that everybody was copying/pasting what i was saying but it automatically comes up when replied to. Replies don't do that on FFN and I just noticed that. I'm sorry, I'm such an idiot now.

Hmmmmm, very disappointing. This place is full of opinions that others don't like. Don't why they are so upset.

Please no hate mail. If you don't like the fact that I showed that you have no clue what you're talking about, then reflect on your own inadequacies instead of projecting them onto me.

Kind of like how Los Angeles County EMSA just introduced a brand new transport protocol that included triaging stroke patients to hospitals with neurological capabilities instead of just the nearest ER?

All true. But the question remains - what do you "get" for your accreditation, besides a nice decal for your truck and a pat on the back? In most states, there has to be a two-track process for hospitals. You can be JCAHO-accredited, or you can g...

There is also the CFAI accreditation model. That model covers EMS systems, not just ambulance services. Of course, it also covers fire, rescue, hazmat, fire prevention, public safety education, and emergency management, but it is by far the most...

In theory, great idea. Practically, maybe not so great. Start with the notion that communities need good EMS. An "ambulance service" is one part of that, but only one part. Depending on the design of the system, the ambulance service may make a d...

What's in a title?

A recent (re)posting of a sappy "I'M AN AMBULANCE DRIVER" 'rant' thingamajig on one of the several forums I frequent (all too often) got me thinking, "Why do people care so much about what we're called?" This isn't to say that what we proclaim ourselves to be is unimportant, but the amount of personal offense some people take when being called by some titles is astonishing.

So, let's review the common titles the public uses:
