You are absolutely right, the term scab is very perjorative, and is a unionesque term in it's origin. However, I basically stated my personal opinion on Fire based, in particular, integrated EMS. Research that has been done about the advantages o...

Ben. First off, there has been no evidenciary studies done that prove, as you claim, that one service model is better than another, and that Firefighters are necessarily better at providing EMS Services - it's all anectdotal. If you want to argue ...

I couldn't have said this better myself. I tried to avoid this topic because my last experience on it was less than satisfying. In fact, as Tom pointed out, it's the same thing I've said on another "EMS Magazine" 's forum almost two years ago, an...

I haven't used a vacmat, but I love vacuum splints. Unfortunately, the vac splints are incredibly expensive if they need to be replaced - and I've actually stood there with my mouth gaping open as a Trauma resident cut through my vac splint. Spine...

Joe, if you actually read the law that applies to Paramedics in a Hospital or ER facility in Tennessee, the wording will terrify you. It basically states that a Paramedic can perform anything a Physician signs off on them to do. As for starting a...

Um, in most hospitals, Paramedics are employed as transporters and ER techs. They start IVs, do blood draws, EKGs, take vital signs and assist nurses. That's it, no meds or invasive procedures. Very few hospitals allow paramedics to perform at the...

Wow. I'm part of a profession that helped kill a TV show. We did something that the LE Community couldn't do for CSI or First 48! I feel honored.

So I have a question for Chance Gearheat. Why in the world is an EMT-IV talking about "pacing, etomidate, RLS, ACLS, CPAP, intubation, etc", when you can't even perform ANY of these procedures? You're talking it up like your some kind of awesome PediFlite Paramedic/Nurse, but all you can do is drive the ambulance. For those of you who don't know Tennessee State EMS Laws, an EMT-IV is a BASIC EMT + the ability to start IV's, push D50, place simple combitubes, give Nitro, albuterol, and hang NS. The EMT-IV replaced the EMT-B. So, what do you know about ACLS, sedation, advanced airway procedures, and pharmacology? From the way you sound on your "discussions" is you used wikipedia.
