About Me
I am now a retired Medic who loved the career choice of helping others. I have become a freelance photographer since retiring from the Ambulance and love it but I sure do miss the thrill of the "Woo-woo" and all the special comradary of EMS. I hope to shoot a photo-essay on EMS one day!

Something New...

WOW, I guess I should write something new here since so much has happened since my last posting! Let's see..... I am now an F.T.O. [Field Training Officer], Celebrated 30 years of patient care, spent 3 weeks searching for a new beginning/fresh start/relocation and found my own paradise spot. I will be relocating this spring from Muskogee, OK to Kalispel, MT - I am so excited!!!! I have needed to make some serious changes in my life for a long while now and I finally got my act together and… Continue

My First JEMS Blog (LOL)....

I guess I should put something here (LOL). Well - I am an NREMT-B in Oklahoma who is content to work for a private service that treats me well. I am blessed with some really fantastic friends and co-workers. Alas though, I am a widow and have nobody to share my life with. It's tough to find anyone who understands me or my chosen career field but I keep smiling and searching - someday my prince will arrive and sweep me off my ambulance (I mean my feet). I enjoy meeting and talking with people… Continue

Thanks BJ, Just calling it as I feel it.
My Grandfather was a good 'old' mechanic and I grew up around car engines, spanners & grease guns but I'm not much good at it, just the basics, I did however inherited the 'OLD' bit - my brother inherited all the other skills. I step in when he slams his fingers in the car door or slips with a screw driver etc. I just love this "Older Medics in EMS" site I get a cackle from time to time. Cheers Grizzly

I am new to Tulsa and will be going to EMT/B school here with Medic to follow, I have already been an EMT/B in the state of IL but I was stupid and didn't keep up on my classes. I need to know what type of work schedules do the ambulance companies around the area have. Also I would like to know about each company that is in the area, I am use to working for private ambulance companies that run 24hrs on and 48 hrs off, I really love that aspect of that and we also had quarters to return to when we had down time. I would appreciate any information that you can give me to help me with the choices that I have to make here in the near future.

I like your attitude B.J., some people forget that you need more than medical knowledge to make a good job outside;-)
