About Me
I got my first taste of radio communicationss during a ride-along with Rich Serino--what a treat! I couldn't get enough! After riding with the Chief, I went from ALS truck to ALS truck, riding 3rd for close to 72 hours. I got my EMT-B cert shortly thereafter (May 2004), but it would be another 5 years until my SDIP dropped below the cutoff.

Due to a combination of circumstances (mostly all the time I spent volunteering on the Gulf Coast), I was unable to afford the con-ed courses required to maintain my certification.

In all honesty, I have been trying to secure some sort of gainful employment for almost 3 years now. Recently though, I have been devoting more and more of this 'job search' time to studying emergency management, especially communications.

Basically, I'm a nobody working furiously to be a somebody. Don't roll your eyes, but it is my dream to work in this field. The NIC's implementation of NIMSCAST has revealed that many state and local EOCs still fall short of compliance, and NIMS needs work at the federal level as well--especially with respect to how exactly to integrate web 2.0, while keeping the system secure at the same time (and let's not overlook the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality at the first responder/BLS/ALS level).

So for the past 6 months, I have "brushed up" on my IT knowledge/skills, and am confident that I could build a NIMS-compliant PSAP (from scratch) within 72 hours. Give me a week to have the place flawlessly up and operating, not to mention running itself (almost). Potentially, this would allow a couple dispatchers to hit the streets. Oh yeah, and I almost neglected to mention that this can be done for a fraction of the current cost. The same can be accomplished for a fully integrated government system (not a system of systems). Instead of going over-budget, I'd be handing much of the allotted funds back to our Nation.

CERC: For Leaders by Leaders

Empathy is the door that
opens your voice to the
information that you want to
communicate. So if people
can perceive that you actually
care about it in a genuine,
human way, I think they're
much more willing to listen to
anything else that you have to
say. If you don't do that, you
have really lost your audience
because people won't listen
to you.

Avril,
Rich Serino never got back to me. I would love you to send me patches. If you want any in return let me know. Thank you. Take care and be safe.
