I'm interested in hearing if your department, county or state has an EMS Honor Guard or are interested in forming one. There are lots of Fire Service Honor Guards, but not many EMS specific honor guards that I have seen. I used to love watching th...

A.J.,
Had a great time at this year's conference. Only my second, and appreciated seeing and meeting many more pre-hospital professionals. The best part was the privilege given to me by you and your staff of participating in the judging of the JEMS games. Despite my limited role in the preliminaries, I thank you for that opportunity and hope to be granted the same privilege next year! Seeing such hard work and dedication was inspiring to me and certainly made my trip worthwhile. The opportunities to speak with so many professionals from varied pre-hospital settings was overwhelming! I felt much more a part of the process than I had in the past, and hope to take many of the lessons learned and pass them on to both my staff and my students as well. Again, thanks for the opportunity and a hearty "strong work" to you and the staff for all the efforts that went into putting on such a great conference.

Hello A.J.,
I'm doing research for a trauma CE class I'll be teaching. I saw on the Virginia EMS website that you teach chest trauma and abdominal trauma classes. Would you have any information regarding those or other trauma classes that you wouldn't mind sharing? I appreciate your time!

Welcome to the group AJ. Its been many years since the good old days with PEHSC and Cetronia. I see Doug and Steve several times a year at conferences and they seem to be doing well with their practice. Next time you are going to be in Pa. maybe we can all get together for dinner. I'm glad to see you have had such a successful career in EMS, but I'm not surprised.
Jim certainly picked the right man for the job.
Here's wishing you and your family a great year in 2009.

Prior to joining JEMS (the Journal of Emergency Medical Services), I served as Director of Operations for Cetronia Ambulance, a multi-jurisdictional BLS/ALS service based in Allentown, Pa. from 1992-1995.

For 18 years prior to my position at Cetronia Ambulance, I was executive director of the Eastern Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Services Council, a six-county regional EMS office funded by the PA Department of Health. There, I helped establish and direct a regional BLS/ALS system comprised of 150 BLS and ALS services; 17 acute care hospitals; two regional Trauma Centers; two pre-hospital helicopters system and MEDCOM, an advanced medical communications center that served a population of 1.2 million residents.

I also served as a paramedic and command officer for Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. This combination volunteer/paid department offers multi-jurisdictional BLS/ALS/Rescue service throughout Northampton County, Pennsylvania. While at Bethlehem Township, I helped develop and supervise the "Medic 1" Paramedic Response System, which provided ALS service to 11 urban, suburban and rural municipalities.
My Training:
A graduate of Temple University, I received my master's degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. A certified EMS and rescue instructor, I have served on the faculty of university EMS degree programs; community college EMS training divisions; and fire academies.

I've studied and specialized in the management of mass casualty incidents for 27 years.
About Me
I assumed the role of JEMS Editor in December 1997. I joined the staff of Jems Communications in April 1995 to serve as vice president of Jems Communications, director of the Emergency Care Information Center and Director of the Jems Conference Division before moving to the editorial department.

I Love Being in Fire/EMS Because
My positions at JEMS & Elsevier Public Safety Publications allow me the opportunity to truely impact the development of EMS on a daily basis. Jim Page loved that we were dubbed the "Conscience of EMS" by NAEMT and I loved Jim Page - so I do not take that designation lightly.

Hi everyone, I have been working a Fly Car now for 2 years. I also like the concept. In fact, the hospital that I am working in (Bangkok, Thailand) is the only hospital base ambulance that operate this type of vehicle with multi-tasks.

If you work in a "fly car" or "first responder" this is the place for you. Say hello, get to know each other, share experiences good or bad. A good place to vent or just learn what we all do in our regions.

Very interestingly, how do you apply them (ice packs) on the patient ?
