Comment by Erich M. Weldon on August 23, 2011 at 12:01am Hi all! There is a new association in California representing EMS professionals. Even if you are not an EMD, EMR, EMT, AEMT or Paramedic in California, please "Like" this page to support us! CAAEMT Facebook Page
The mission of the California Association of Emergency Medical Technicians is to serve the prehospital EMS care providers of California by presenting networking opportunities, offer continuing education, work with CAAEMT partners to give discounts on services and products, and represent its membership during discussions that will readily affect their practice and protocols.

Comment by Pascal Hay on May 11, 2011 at 11:24am Our state has made it so that law enforcement is in charge
of security and criminal activities at a scene, fire is responsible for safety
of the scene and hazard mitigation, EMS is responsible for the patient and
patient care. We respond with seven fire
districts and two town departments. On
occasion we encounter a city department.
For the most part our medic units are under the command of our
supervisor who fills in as the transportation and treatment officer in the
unified command structure. There are
some fire districts that we respond to where our supervisor is the ranking
officer on scene and will handle other recourses as well. We have a good working relationship with all
of the departments. The exception is
that the city department has the mind set of “We are it”. When we encounter them it depends on who
their IC is as to how the relationship goes on the event. Some city fireman volunteer with some of the
departments we respond with and they bring that attitude over with them as
well. For the most part aside from that
we have a good and smooth relationship with all of the departments and our
scenes flow smoothly with all focuses aimed on patient care and transportation
as the primary and all other mitigation secondary. If our supervisor can’t be present at the
scene our medic unit is under the command of the IC or his designee as to unit
placement. The main focus of our medic
unit is the safe and effective treatment and transportation of the patient or
patients.
I’m from a third service ambulance district located in the Ohio Valley. Our department responds with any of eight fire departments that service our area. My question is how many third services use a unified command? In addition; in your area how does the command structure work in a multi discipline and jurisdictional boundary?
