Depends on your call volume and average length of each call. If you aren't getting any rest or down time during the 24, then yes. If you have only a handful of calls during the 24, then probably not. When analyzing 24s, remember that call duration is just as important. It doesn't take many calls if you're looking at regular hour or 2 long transports because you're out in the sticks to wear you down. On the other hand, several half hour long calls aren't exactly a bad thing.

we do it all,911,stand by's,industral, transfer lond and short. we are BLS and a ALS service. and we back up 4 counties in ky and 2 or 3 in IN.
Barb your service is not BLS but ILS since you only run as high as EMT-I,but the other services should know that.

Hello, my name is Randy and I work for a private company in NE Texas and SW Arkansas called Lifenet. We are the only 911 ambulance service in our area, we also do local transfers as well as long distance transfers.

Hello all,My name is Barb. I live in Lexington NC and I work for a private non profit ambulace service in Guilford co,NC. We do interfacility txp as well as dr appts and long distance txp at times. We also run 911 calls. We stay pretty busy.We operate as BLS/ALS at a EMT-I level. Most night on a 24 hour shift we are lucky to get any sleep at all. The biggest issue I have with working for my agency is the disrespect we get from the County medics at times and even the dispatchers. We work under the same protocals and in conjuction with the county EMS. I think my pet peeve is when the say the refer to the conty units as ALS and us as BLS when we pretty much do ever thing but cardiac and seizures. We do on occasion txp those in a crunch if we are there and no unit is close enough we can rendezvous. I do love y job somedays but sometimes it takes its toll.I sure you all understand.Anyways...nice to meet you all.
