I hold a current EMT license in CT & RI and need to relocate to Broward County FL. I am not Nationally registered. Are there any contacts in the Ft Lauderdale area where I can pursue getting licensed. What is the FL cert process? Classroom hours? Private instruction or state? Etc.

Hey Juan !! Congrats bro! We are already going through possible candidates at this time. Now, I know that we have 3 new PRIVATE AMBULANCE COMPANIES in Polk County that are approved to run BLS transfers within the county and those are Americare, American, and positive ambulance . Check any of these guys out until we have another hiring day! Good luck bro!!

Thanks Raul!! I appreciate the advice 100 percent, i am looking into some practice tests right now. I will also look into Polk County, its not that far from where I am. Hopefully all goes well and I can get to work and start gaining experience, even if at the beginning I have to volunteer. Thanks!

Hi Juan ! Look online for, " practice emt national registry test". They have a lot of questions there to test off of. NREMT will test your knowledge in the these parts, medical emergencies, trauma, respiratory emergencies, on/gyn emergencies, and some anatomy. Do look over the legal aspects such as a tort , emancipation of minors and so on. It's a lot of scenario based questions so look at treatments in all these different categories! Keep it simple and always remember read the question well at least two times and look at your answers and take the two that don't belong, then pick the best or safest answer. Also, I work in Polk county which is right next to Kissimmee we Are an EMS 911 system and they are always looking for auxiliary EMT's. We are going to be hiring too. Also, there are 3 NEW private ambulance companies that just started service in the county if you need employment they are, Americare, American, and Positive ambulance service! Hello everyone, I am currently new to the Florida are, living in Kissimme. I am going for my NREMT in the upcoming weeks, but finished my training in Massachusettes. I was ondering if anyone could offer any good tips on the testing, would love some feedback it would be greatly appreciated. Also I was wondeing if anybody knows about volunteer work that i can do, I will do anything, currently have lot of time of my hand, would love to help out...

Thanks Raul. That's what I thought- I'd have to take the exam. No. biggie. I had to ask, since I hear rumors everywhere but never take what I hear as Word. I've held off on fire up here as I already knew that Florida doesn't accept other certs. That will be something down the road- Right now, I want to get settled in. I am still going to be up here till the middle of Jan to try and save up some more money because of the job market... again, thank you.

Hey Anthony! Welcome to Florida!! I'm originally from Los Angeles California and moved here 6 years ago and brought with me my NREMT-P and California state Paramedic Licensure...Florida WILL make you take their state exam. They are currently looking at NREMT-P as the state exam but it's not there just yet. Florida is just one of those states that doesn't except outside Certs or licensures. I had both my NATIONAL Fire standards and my Paramedic but the state would not except my Fire standards from California thats a nationalcert. Jobs are hard to come by now a days but it wouldn't hurt to start out with a private then move your way up to a county based EMS system. I currently Work for Polk County EMS which is just south of Orlando and we're going through a transition at this time of merging EMS with the FIre Rescue side. It's been a roller coaster but glad to have a job!!

One last question- anyone know of a decent place to apply that would accept NREMT-P, or as a Florida Paramedic when that happens?
