The mission of the California Association of Emergency Medical Technicians is to serve the prehospital EMS care providers of California by presenting networking opportunities, offer continuing education, work with CAAEMT partners to give discounts on services and products, and represent its membership during discussions that will readily affect their practice and protocols.

I know what you mean, many times it has happened to me .One time was returning from a call and got paged for a two veh. acc, w/ 6 poss. pts. got on scene and one of the vehicles was my wife with my son and two grandchildren . But living in a small town, and having been active for 20 yrs sooner or later you will run into somebody you know.

They way we work in Taylor County, WI is we have 2 volunteer EMTs and a volunteer driver. My wife drives and I'm an EMT. Anyway, I started having afib and she was on call. So I called 911 while drove to the garage to get the EMTs and the rig. In hindsight, I should have just jumped into the truck and gone with her to the garage. Hindsight's 20/20. Long story short, she drove the rig with me as a pt. We are taught to get another crew to respond to calls we know personally. However, in a rural volunteer setting with a small community, you can't help but know the pt. In those cases you do what you always do. You give the pt the best care possible.

Hey David,
I got a similar call 4 weeks ago, exept that I was in my living room, and got the call by my wife beating on the wall to get my attention from the shower, when I got in there, her neck and face were swollen up to the point that she was having trouble breathing. My 1st thought was an allergic reaction to a sting or bite of some kind. I transported her POV to the ER about a mile from our house, ( not used to entering the ER dept through the front door) That was at about 12:00 and by 15:30 she was being checked into a room, diagnosed with lung cancer. The swelling was due to a tumor that was pressing on her trachea.
I can imagine the anxiety if I were at the station and got toned out to my own address. If I had called it in instead of going POV, it would have probably been difficult to get out around all the vehicles in the street.
I'm glad all is OK with your wife.

I'm glad everything turned out alright for your wife! I know what you mean about having to respond on calls for family members! I have treated my wife 3 times and my father-in-law three times. It is always nerve racking!

Hi All:
Well here it is 07:30 thursday morning and last night it was one of those nights I could have lived without but knew it would eventually happen. About 23:00 hours The call came in and right away I recognized the address it was mine. It was chest pain and difficulty breathing. My partner showed up at the Ambulance and told me to take patient care and I said he would have to do it. He jumped in and ask me why he had to do patient care and I looked at him and said don' t you recognize the address? It was then he said oh crap it is yours. We went code to the address and then heard my fire district was on scene. Of course when we got there there were three of our medically equiped Brush Trucks and a engine on scene. My fire chief was doing vital signs on my wife. The decision was made to transport to the hospital. I drove to the hospital {probably fastest ambulance has ever gone} where I was met by ER crew already for her. While there 6 members of the ambulance crew showed up and offered to take the rest of my shift so I could stay with her. (greatest crew ever) In total 17 firefighter 8 of them EMTs and 6 Am crew members showed up for this call. It turned out to only be a slight touch of pnemonia. She is back home this morning and resting comfortably. but what a turnout. It is always like that in my district when the call goes out everyone goes.

Hey Everyone,
I need prayers!
I haven't been on here much lately, My wife is battling lung cancer. She has Small Cell Lung Cancer which is in the extensive stage, due to the fact that it is in both lungs, both adrenal glands, lymph node in the right side of her neck, and outside the lungs on the medial sternum.
She begins her 2nd round of chemo on Monday. then Radiation sometime in the next 3 weeks, Probably with the 3rd round of chemo.
We need prayers,
Also, if anyone knows of any good sources for financial support, I am open to suggestions.

Hello everyone, Coming from Alabama here. I have been with a fire department for all my adult life. I'm a EMT-B/Firefighter. This is the only life I know. I'm always going to school or classes it seems now a days.
