Hello everyone,  I am interested in everyones thoughts on leasing ambulances versus purchasing them.  What are the pros and cons to both and what pitfalls should be avoided for both.

Hi all! There is a new association in California representing EMS professionals. Even if you are not an EMD, EMR, EMT, AEMT or Paramedic in California, please "Like" this page to support us!  CAAEMT Facebook Page

The mission of the California Association of Emergency Medical Technicians is to serve the prehospital EMS care providers of California by presenting networking opportunities, offer continuing education, work with CAAEMT partners to give discounts on services and products, and represent its membership during discussions that will readily affect their practice and protocols.

Spread the word by re-posting on JEMS and Facebook!

I have created a discussion forum to explore the EMS community's feelings on our resonsibility for rendering care to patients who do not speak English. If you have feelings in either direction, I would really like to hear them please at:

Thank you.

For those of you looking for more feedback, you might consider posting your questions on the FORUM rather than here. It seems to get a lot more traffic, particularly from management types.

Wouldn't that be a wonderful thing? It would mean that significant federal money was being directed to the states for EMS, in order to "buy" compliance - like they do for highways and many other things. States can go along or do without the money.

Now - is that a good thing? Not if EMS folks don't get engaged so that they can influence the federal bureaucracy. Otherwise, like the Air Force had the $900 toilet seats, we might have the $350 IV catheter.

Throwing out a question. After the FRM conference in Vegas it appears that NHTSA/EMS is looking to mirror what Canada did with their EMS system i.e. single national EMS certification, single protocol set etc. From a mangement perspective this would simplify some of our lives and extremely complicate others. (California comes to mind!) I called Mr. Dawson on this path being voluntary but has congressional funding. I foresee a possible battle out of some states and the feds mandating this process no matter what by later witholding fed funding. Thoughts?

Attached is a link to a blog post on firechief.com regarding furlough days for firefighters and police officers.
The post is very interesting, but, even more interesting is the comment/response.
How are public EMS agencies confronting these same issues?
