I'm a new elected Rescue Chief for a small town in the State of Maine. I've been in EMS for over 12 years. I currently work full time as a RN but am looking to get back into EMS full-time.

Hi, my name is Shannon, and I'm currently interested in running for 2nd Lt. Of our local Rescue Squad. I've been a member for 2 years, and in that time our leadership has changed so much, our Captain stepped down, and we've been without a 2nd Lt for over 9 months. I was pretty much handed our secretary position, which I enjoy. Morale is low, members are divided, and not many people are showing up to night calls. I would like some advice on how to raise morale and how to get more members to show up to late night calls. I'm an RN and I work 11p-7a. I can't answer evening calls :( however, on my nights off, I do. Any advice is greatly appreciated. We have so much talent on our squad and I'm constantly pointing this out, but everyone just mumbles under their breaths :(

My issue with my leadership role in my Department is that I work for a volunteer Company and the Ambulance crew and Supervisor (Me) are the only paid personel. Every year the volunteer leadership changes which is my bosses and the rules change every year. My bosses dont want the headache of dealing with the paid staff but want to tell me how to do every aspect of my job. Micromanaging is awful and that is exactly what happens here.

Hey guys all this Piggy Flu fervor has done some good (albeit unintentional) our department is starting to look at compliance around PPE reglations.

I am being taken to task on a statement that I made that all EMS services need to maintain records of annual repirator fit tests. Did I misstate this?
