What training tools would be helpful to your organization with in-servicing field care providers on a new product or technology? For example: CPAP, IO-access device, Defibrillator, etc...

Trainers of the same equipment and simulators. Most good simulators are very expensive.

Get a trainer that is just like the one in the rig(s). Most providers I have come across are the hands on types that need to touch things.

When getting input on a new product I will buy or barrow one (3 if they are disposable) and let the squad 'play' with it.

Last equipment purchase for my squad was one of those fancy Ferno stair chairs with the treads. I left it in the training room for a month before it was placed on the rig that way everyone could have a chance to play with it. Got a red one so the firemen would play with it too (durability testing). I also left instructions (silly me thinking anyone would read them.)

When we did the inservice on the new stairchair it was easy, everyone was familiar with it.

Of course I wouldn't leave an IO-access device laying around, only because I know it would be used as a drill in someones shop or something.

I totally agree hands-on trainng is great and you were really right on with the wat you handled the E-z Glide chair. We just put one in service works great and is totally awesome in tight quarters. Also the new hydraulic/electric stretcher sure helps out especially with us oled folks. Same goes for IO which would quite a weapon left in the training room with some of my firemen. CPAP scary until it is used, once you get over the hump and see what benefits your patient gets from it, it's a breeze. We always view the manufactures video or handouts which are very helpful and I believe in letting everyone get some time trying out the item in a non-emergency setting, but sometimes dummies just aren't like the real thing. We do alot of sharing with in-service trainng aids in our area. Thanks for you point and I will follow the other replys

Used the new SALT device at ACLS class a few weeks ago and was very impressed. Any services using this device?  Are there any proven numbers for increasing the percentages of sucessful intubations with patients that are difficult intubations?
