Welcome all! the response to this is just one night has been amazing. Jenny, good to see OH-1 up here. I hope we get all the DMATs eventually. Jimbo, thanks for taking your valuable time to let people know what California is doing in disaster. Now that LA County has joined up I know there will be some spirited discussions. (Yes, JC, I see you!). Everyone is invited. Maybe we'll talk some interested folks into becoming disaster junkies!

Season's Greetings all. I'm finding a little bit of all my different 'hats' at this website, looking forward to the conversations. Jenny, OH-1 DMAT

Thank you Sam for inviting me to join this group. Although I dont have much time for blogging and groups I will do what I can to assist in this much needed and worthwhile group. Disaster Medical & Health Management is going through yet more changes as representatives from all over the State meet today and tomorrow in Riverside to review the curriculum for Disaster Medical Managers (DMM). This training program is being lead by CA EMSA and spearheaded and developed by the very capable Mike Brady from CSTI fame. I am excited about this project as it is much needed along with FOG and SOG manuals for the MHOACs in the State as well as the RDMHCs.

The State is also developing the Management Support Teams (MST) for response to operational situations where CalMats or other medical assets may be activated. The use and coordination of CalMats and MRCs is still in its infancy. Talent from all over the State and beyond will be needed to develop these programs and response assets.

Another area of development and growth is in the area of Mobile Field Hospitals. Between the State and the County of Los Angeles there are 4 Mobile Field Hospital setups. Typing of these assets is needed along with many other medical and health assets used in disaster medical response.

As for myself, I am a 30 year veteran of EMS. I started as a reserve firefighter, became and EMT, Paramedic and then changed jobs and worked my way up the ranks in EMS disaster management. I have been working specifically in disaster medical & health management since 1995. I have also been the primary Administrative Officer for DMAT CA-9 since December 2000.

Thanks for inviting and please contact me anytime! jeads@dhs.lacounty.gov (562) 903-7049

Welcome to the group for EMS folks that are involved in, or interested in disaster work. We are looking for folks in CERTs, MRCs, state teams or NDMS federal teams. If you're interested, we can probably find resources for you in the type of team you're interested in. Hopefully we'll get some good discussions going here. Disaster responders are real heroes and I'm blessed to know many of them. I hope you'll enjoy them too.

Let us know what you do in the world of disaster EMS. I've been the Training Officer for Disaster Medical Assistance Team California 6 for the better part of 10 years. I know there are a lot of good stories out there of disaster responses, challenges and triumphs. Please comment! Sam
