Hi, My name is Jane Stern and I am new to this site. I have been an EMT for twelve years and I am the author of the memoir Ambulance Girl about starting a career in EMS very late in life. The book was made into a movie and Kathy Bates played me. It was a great experience.

What a great idea Lisa! This is an awesome place to check in with those who inspire and motivate great EMS systems and patient care. I published years ago with JEMS and offerred presentations at several EMS Todays in the past. It's great to have a global look at the industry from the JEMS perspective.

Though I have not published in JEMS--I have published and I do have this comment and question for you all---

Guy is an outstanding contributor for you all--What compassion he has for his patients..

Also--Are you all considering having Dr. Russ (?)--I think I am correct--write any blogs here? Or is it possible--to maybe, and I am going out on a limb here--take some of his awesome articles regarding differentially diagnosing and placing the scenario on the board--main forum thread--for discussion and critique as it realtes to various SOP's etc? I have a great call I think I am going to post, maybe the trial of such would be fruitful--Just a thought but I wanted to pose such...Thanks guys! You are all a great asset to this field! Dr. Russ is just great also!

I'm currently in the process of writing a book as a tribute to EMS. My ex husband who is a paramedic is going to tell about his experiences which covers almost 20 years in the EMS system. I'm hoping to add more stories from others as well and would love to hear from others who don't mind telling some of there stories. It is a work in progress and the confidentiality rules will be applying here. I'm really excited because I believe that people don't get to see what EMS is really all about. I'm hoping to shed some light about us, because like I have read so much, it isn't about the money, because we really don't get paid as much as we should. It's because we LOVE what we do!!!!

I am glad I found this new forum. I have been in EMS/fire education for a number of years and lecture at various locations frequently. I have considered writing but it always gets pushed to a back burner because of time constraints. I live in a very rural area of this great country and volunteers are a dwindling commodity leaving more for the rest of us to do. I have been in this business for 17 years and there is always something to learn, (spelling is probably one of them). There isn't enough hours in the day to commit to a full length research project or article, but I am willing to contribute insight or experience on a subject. when I return to this post site I will possibly have more thought into it.
