Wilderness EMT
Just curious, what is everyone's take on the Wilderness Medical Associates scope of practice? Or, what do you think of the "wilderness" EMT/First Responder?

I have been activelly involved with wilderness SAR for almost 15 years. I became an EMT 3 years ago to expand my medical knowledge beyond Wilderness First Aid (WFA). I plan to upgrade my EMT-B to Wilderness-EMT to learn best practices and skills in a remote locations. The goal is to manage the scene for safety, treat the patient with what you carry in, then quickly stabilize and "package" the patient for transport. There is also specialized equipment for thermomregulation and carry-out for transport to the next level of care. Typically, we get called out at night and have to deal with adverse weather not to mention difficult terrain. W-EMT training teaches you how to deal with those types of emergencies.
