I am an EMT-B student who will be graduating December 15th. I would LOVE to work at the fire department once i'm certified. I am just curious how other people have started out their EMS careers.

After paramedic, my first (and current) job was for a county government, non-fire based EMS service.

My first job was volunteer. No one would hire an 18 year old EMT-IV. I ended up working in Memphis on a 911 truck for the next two years.

I work with a lot of guys who are EMT's and some Paramedics who had "fire" in their eyes when they started at "Private Ambulance". Most of them still work here and volunteer or are part time with a department somewhere in hopes of getting a full-time offer.
