JEMS Connect - EMS Emergency Medical Services

Social and Professional Network

So I am on vacation this week and have the ability to follow twitter and facebook closely. I am amazed at how many people are sending tweets while enroute to a call or just after the completion. Is this becoming the new norm? Should we as administrators figure out a way to allow this free flow of information or should we stop it cold? Anyway, add me to your twitter @geekymedic if you want to follow the travels across America. If you are in the heartland on I-80 from NE to OH let me know we can stop by and take some pictures of fellow EMSer's at work.

Just spent a few minutes running back through this thread. Google Wave would be a much easier way to revisit discussion forum topics.

Last month I wrote an article on social media in EMS for EMS Magazine. I am presenting on that topic at the EMS Expo later this month.

If you are at the conference seek me out, send me a twitter message @gfriese, or just look for me at the podcasting booth in the exhibit hall. I will be there with the crew from the MedicCast, EMS Garage, and EMS Educast.

See you there.

PS I have a code for free entry to the exhibit hall if you can only come for the exhibit hall I can make sure you get in at no cost.

Hello Chris,

Interesting question. I mirror many of the comments made already; safety and patient privacy. We are discussing ways to use social media for educational purposes; notification of pod casts, CE sessions, medical ‘what if’ scenarios etc. I am also beginning to introduce social media in the classroom as a way to interact with students. (a bit of a learning curve for me. :-) )
