Question from a JEMS Facebook fan to our readers,
"Looking for some new ideas for our communities upcoming National Night Out. What are other EMS agencies doing in their communities?"
What are your plans for National Night Out 2014 (Tuesday, August 15)
What ways are you telling the public about your needs (budget, staffing, apparatus, etc.)?
If your department is not participating, explain why?
I know this is a couple years ago, but the conversation is still relevant. Last year, our team did a first aid demo and instruction when it comes to splinting broken bones, and we gave examples of at home items that could be used in lieu of calling an ambulance. This year, we are talking about the importance of having a first aid kit, items that should be included, and then we are buying a couple from Walmart and doing a drawing to give those away, not only so a couple families in the community are more prepared, but to also show how affordable and important they are. We have also mentioned how we are always looking for people to join our team, and we haven't advertised the need for donations at National Night Out because that can be done other times. This is a time for the community to meet neighbors as well as police, fire, and EMS personnel.
