Hey all

My girlfriend and I are talking about moving to Boston area (she's pursuing a Phd) and I was wondering if anyone knew who to contact (what agency) for a Massachusetts Paramedic license. I'm nationally registered and currently working in the St. Louis MO area. I was also wondering if anyone knew what EMS agencies in the Boston area that would be a good place to work. Thanks.

Info on MA EMS: http://tinyurl.com/3utx5zl

From what I recall from years ago when I was considering moving there:

Boston is covered by Boston EMS, you would be hired as an EMT and then would have to compete for a medic position after a period of time (i.e. years).

Cambridge is covered by "Pro EMS"

Catalado is another private company that provides EMS for many communities

AMR and Rural/Metro both cover a lot of area, if I recall.

Fallon is another private company that covers a lot of communities.

If you're willing to travel a little bit from Boston, I've heard good things about Worcester EMS and Greater Lowell EMS (aka Saint's Paramedics).

All systems in MA are on a statewide protocol set. The only advanced protocol provided by Boston, Worcester, Saints Medical Center and Lawrence General Paramedics is RSI.

They are excellent systems with terrific paramedics. They get to be excellent by staying very busy in 911 only systems. All of the other services mentioned also can do a lot of 911 calls in very large cities around boston and eastern MA.

Some of those not mentioned are Armstrong which operates both transporting and non transporting paramedic units northwest of boston. Trinity EMS runs ALS units in Lowell, Haverhill, and multiple towns in Southern NH.

Pro EMS also operates the area around Emerson hospital providing non transport units intercepting 14 towns with BLS FD ambulances. About 20-30 minutes west of Boston.

A large number of towns around boston and south of boston also have Fire Department ALS units.
