We frequently have mentioned how barbers (or whatever) have longer education times than various levels of prehospital provider, but the nice folks at the Institute for Justice just put out a nice little list of regulated professions which quantifies this for us.
EMT is down at 67, 2 slots behind "manicurist" and just ahead of "vegetation pesticide handler."

That covers EMTs, but not Paramedics. I see that they did lump Paramedics in there with the EMT description, but the info is only for EMT's.
Devin - unfortunately, in most places, "EMTs" includes everybody who works on an ambulance or does any sort of EMS. Even nationally, the designation is EMT-P.
We should do like the Canadians, English, and Australians - we're all paramedics!
