I work with the guy that created this. It really is a simple, but highly effective device. You should get one once they start selling and see for yourself. I know they tested it in several cadaver labs during the development of it.

I just used this device tonight for the first time at a quarterly skills lab at my teaching hospital, one county over from where I work. None of the services in my county use it, but I believe some of the ones there do. It is a slick piece of equipment. One time use, they said about 30 dollars or so. For the manikin anyway, it works like a charm, every person in the skills lab gave it a turn, and not one esophageal intubation. It's weird do a blind insertion like it's a combi or king, but that's how it works.
Probably not a bad idea though, however I am ready to have this device in our airway kits as an optional tool for difficult intubations. And that's probably the best way to look at it--not as something that will take away direct laryngoscopy, but an admission that not every patient is easily intubated under DL. Anesthesiologists have kept a cart behind them for years with half a dozen or more ways to get an airway, and it's not because they lack practice with DL--quite the opposite! Then when you get someone with less airway experience, in a place that isn't a controlled environment, and a pt who hasn't been NPO...EMS should be stealing all the airway adjunctive tools they can.
